Q: How many kids can join a SWAT Team?

A: SWAT Teams should have no more than 30 members. Limiting the number of members on each team helps ensure that each child receives the full program benefits. However, you can form more than one team in your school, church or community.

Q: Can I use the SWAT symbol to design my own SWAT T-shirt and other incentive items?

A: T-shirts and other gear are part of the SWAT incentive program. Your team members will receive these prizes for signing up and for completing SWAT activities. If you would like to use the SWAT logo on any item, please contact the Communications Director Sharon Garrison at (800) PHM-5437.

Q: Can I request a SWAT presentation for my high school students?

A: The SWAT program has been specifically developed for 4th-6th graders. In addition, The Partnership sponsors FREE for 7th - 8th graders and Frontline for 9th -12th. For more information about these programs, please contact the specific program coordinator at (800) PHM-5437.

Q: How do I recruit youth to join a SWAT Team?

A: You can recruit youth from local schools, churches, community centers, Boys and Girls Clubs, etc. – any programs that have 4th – 6th graders. A classroom, a youth group and other similar existing groups make great SWAT Teams!

Q: What if I have students who are above 6th grade, but want to participate in SWAT?

A: This is a great opportunity to have teenagers take on a leadership role by being a youth sponsor. Junior high and high school kids are cool to younger kids, so have them help you with recruitment efforts! Also, call The Partnership for more information about programs designed specifically for junior high and high school youth.

Q: Is SWAT a statewide program?

A: Yes, SWAT is implemented throughout Mississippi by law enforcement agencies, community associations, faith-based organizations and by educators in the classroom.

Q: Why does SWAT focus only on tobacco? Why not alcohol or other drugs?

A: SWAT focuses on responsible decision-making skills. That ability starts long before youth are introduced to alcohol or other drugs. In fact, nicotine is the first drug children usually encounter. The decision-making skills that youth learn through SWAT will help them make good decisions about a number of issues that affect their health.

Q: How far in advance do I have to request the "SWAT Bug"?

A: The SWAT Bug is part of the interactive, educational SWAT on the Road presentation. Presentations should be made at least two weeks in advance. Requests are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. If you would like to schedule the SWAT on the Road presentation, contact the SWAT Coordinator at (601)362-0740.

Q: How many people can attend a "SWAT on the Road" presentation?

A: There is no limit to the number of students who can attend a "SWAT on the Road" presentation. However, if you have a group of more than 150 youth, we suggest scheduling more than one show for the same day and dividing the youth into groups of no more than 150.

Q: Is the SWAT program doing anything else to help kids make better life choices?

A: Yes. SWAT activities incorporate life-resiliency and communication skill lessons. The Partnership also offers a faith-based version of the SWAT program that includes scriptures with each monthly activity.

Q: Who can attend a SWAT Teacher Training?

A: The Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi conducts teacher training sessions for educators teaching grades 4-6. This includes teachers, drug-free coordinators, school counselors and school librarians. For more information contact, (800) PHM-5437.
